Our School

Our small, child-centered school has been serving families since 2004. Families come from San Marcos, Encinitas, Valley center, Escondido, Poway, Vista and all around North County San Diego just to attend our school.

We accept children 3-6 years old who are toilet trained. This is essential for the child's sense of independence.

WMS holds a large family childcare license, under the California Department of Social Services (License number 376615925). We have annual unannounced site visits from CDSS, and fire/earthquake drill sheets. Teachers and assistants have current CPR and First Aid certificates.

Why So Small?

Maintaining a 6:1 ratio between students and staff allows for one-to-one interactions, creating a nurturing environment that allows students to flourish and learn. Small group lessons help to create a classroom where students are aware of each other and their feelings. Our tightly knit community also allows for frequent communication between teachers and parents.

What is Montessori?

The Montessori classroom allows students to explore their environment with their hands. Respect for the materials and each other are built into the lessons. We practice Grace and Courtesy to learn how to be good citizens. Originally developed by Italian physician Dr. Maria Montessori, the Montessori approach to learning invites the student to use their senses and interact with sensorial and child-sized materials. The geography, botany, and zoology lessons fill the learning environment with rich language. They receive a strong foundation in reading and math.

What We Do

Windmill Montessori is committed to following Montessori Principles and creating wonderful opportunities for each child to grow freely and at their own pace. Montessori education enables children to become self-motivated and independent citizens of our world. Our class is child centered and prepared with each child's emotional, social and physical needs in mind. We focus on the role of the environment and our responsibility to the Earth. Respect for all people is fostered through cultural education and a love of our world.
